The research Laboratory for Mechanics of Advanced Bulk Nanomaterials for Innovative Engineering Applications was founded on 28.06.13 at SPbU under supervision of Prof. Ruslan Z. Valiev with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation (the Decree No. 220). At the moment, the laboratory is supported by various foundations, in particular, on 24.04.18 the laboratory won a competition for conducting applied interdisciplinary research in 2018-2020 at the expense of SPbU (Activity 3, id 26130576).
The laboratory is focused on development of fundamental mechanics of nanomaterials, design of scientific principles for producing new metal bulk nanomaterials with superior mechanical properties, as well as their innovative application in structural and electrical engineering and medicine. Research conducted in the laboratory is fundamental and has an essential applied component. A distinctive feature is the interdisciplinary approach, which includes research on mechanics of nanomaterials, physics and materials science of nanostructures, as well as nanoengineering.
